Danica Nelson

Danica Nelson is a career break expert, certified Trauma of Money practitioner, and the founder of Liberty Leave™, a movement that empowers burnt-out women to take purposeful career breaks/sabbaticals, with a special focus on travel. Through her work, Danica teaches women how to design their own sabbaticals or career breaks, ensuring they have the tools to travel, heal, and return to work refreshed and ready to thrive.

Danica’s journey into career breaks began with a transformative six-month solo trip through Southeast Asia in 2019-2020. This was her first Liberty Leave, and it allowed her to gain firsthand insights into the power of taking time off to travel and heal, though it ended abruptly due to the pandemic. After experiencing burnout again in 2023, Danica took a stress leave, was laid off, and moved to Malaga, Spain with her partner for Liberty Leave 2.0, where she is currently based.

Danica now helps burnt-out women plan and take sustainable career breaks by combining financial planning, emotional healing, and lifestyle design. Her upcoming course & community, launching in 2025, will provide women with a step-by-step guide to taking time off, including managing finances, navigating the emotional aspects of a break, and developing strategies for returning to the workforce with clarity and confidence.

Danica’s approach is rooted in trauma-informed coaching, understanding that both the decision to take a break and the process of returning to work come with their own unique challenges. Her mission is to make the travel career break not just a dream, but a powerful tool for personal growth and professional fulfillment.
